A tale of a tragedy about a teen who turned ‘trans’.
It seems that 'trans' often begins with trauma, as is becoming more evident.
By now, this story has been told several times, but it’s one that it cannot be told too often - not least because there will undoubtably be attempts to memory hole it as an inconvenient truth. The story, one of immense tragedy, is about a teenage girl who starved to death alone in emergency accommodation¹ in the South Island of New Zealand. She had adopted a ‘trans’ identity as a boy, and been estranged from her parents, as is too often the case in these situations, with contact by text re-established only a little while before her death.
The girl, whom her parents have requested to be called Vanessa, was troubled and could be difficult due to various life events and the co-existing conditions she had. One of those life events included being sexually molested at the age of five by an older child at school. Vanessa was the ideal recipient for the ‘trans’ agenda. Once exposed to it, she inevitably fell to it. Her parents and her psychiatrist knew that going along with Vanessa’s delusion of being a boy was the wrong thing for her. However, other adults from school and various agencies affirmed her ‘trans’ identity as a boy, and she eventually severed contact with her parents and left home.
In January 2023, Vanessa was found dead and skeletal from anorexia nervosa, alone in the locked motel room where she’d obtained emergency accommodation.
Journalist Ruth Hill broke the story in RNZ News on 12 June this year. She had been alerted to it by Fern Hickson from Resist Gender Education, who had been contacted by Vanessa’s parents after a period of grieving for their lost daughter. They knew they weren’t the only parents with kids hit by gender ideology, and bravely decided to go public with their story to expose the dangers of it. Fern struggled to find a journalist with the interest and/or courage to write such an explosive and largely taboo piece, instead of the usual ‘trans’ puff pieces preferred by mainstream media, until Ruth took it on.
She did her homework meticulously before submitting it for publication by RNZ News. It created the expected furore amongst fervent ‘trans’ ideologues. The Spinoff published a rebuttal by Julia de Bres and John Fenaughty, both associate professors at different NZ universities These two spun the usual line that being ‘trans’ was entirely normal, and to say otherwise was harmful. Notably, their reputations and careers, and one of these individual’s kids, are linked to sustaining the ‘trans’ myth. Surprised?
Another who gave Ruth a scolding for her article was documentary filmmaker and journalist David Farrier (not to be confused with David Farrar who runs Curia Market Research) who has also long been amongst the woke-indoctrinated -
And, of course, there’d be no show without the pretentious Paul Thistoll, ex husband/partner to the above-mentioned Julia de Bres of The Spinoff piece. Thistoll is a curiosity, to put it politely. It’s unclear what he does to earn a living these days apart from creating organisations devoted to lobbying for TQ+ interests, and requesting donations to keep them – i.e. him - going. His main course of action in pursuit of this appears to be firing off letters. Two of these were to complain to RNZ News about Ruth Hill’s article and to threaten that he might consider legal action if an apology wasn’t issued forthwith; and to the Chief Coroner to “respectfully bring to your attention our organisation's concerns regarding what we believe may constitute an attempt to improperly influence a coronial process currently before your jurisdiction." Naturally, his own letter wasn’t deemed to be an attempt to influence the Chief Coroner. Thistoll has an education behind him, as evidenced by the language he uses in his attempt to make himself sound like someone to take seriously, but as we know, intelligent and educated people are not exempt from being stupid.
Even though six agencies, all told, were involved in Vanessa’s life, let’s not forget the “older child” who sexually molested her at age five. Although this older child’s sex is carefully not revealed in Ruth’s article, I opine that there’s a 99.99% chance it was a boy. He traumatised Vanessa as a five-year-old, which contributed to her mental and emotional decline later on, as described in Ruth’s article. What kind of man he may have gone on to be is not altogether a pleasant thought. Trauma doesn’t go away, it lurks around to some degree or other, no matter what we end up doing with our lives afterwards. What is becoming ever more apparent, is that frequently ‘trans’ begins with trauma. The likes of de Bres, Fenaughty, Farrier, Thistoll, and TQ+ lobby groups would rather deny this, because the honesty of it doesn’t suit their narrative and incomes. But truth is a hard beast to suppress forever, and will always come out.

This is a detailed read, which includes how Vanessa’s parents were told off by a police officer at the scene of Vanessa’s death for using the ‘wrong’ pronouns for her.
