Finnish study proves New Zealand’s puberty blocker ban is the right move.
Young people’s mental health has a high rate of worsening after gender-affirming healthcare, the study shows.
A newly released study out of Finland on gender-affirming healthcare, has come up with deeply concerning results. The study shows that a significant number of the 2,083 under-23-year-olds, who were followed up after receiving gender-affirming healthcare, experienced a deterioration of mental health. Data for the 23 years between 1996 and 2019 was analysed, using 16,643 matched controls, before reaching those conclusions. Deterioration of mental health was worse amongst adolescents who underwent medical gender reassignment. ¹
SEGM – Society for Evidence Based Gender Medicine – intends to analyse the study in depth, and I expect they will publish their professional take on it shortly. In the meantime, their account on X gives a few more snippets of their first impressions of this study.
The results of the Finnish study conclusively demonstrate how badly flawed the narrative around gender-affirming healthcare has been. That narrative pushes the concept that making it easy for gender distressed young people to ‘transition’ to the opposite sex will make them happier, and is ‘life saving’. Not only is it impossible to transition to the opposite sex, the health professionals who want to say so, and dispute the ‘life saving’ assertion, are often at risk of incurring severe censure from their ideologically captured governing bodies if they do that.
This study vindicates those who have fought to bring attention to the harms of gender-affirming healthcare, and I’d like to think it might begin to break down the erroneously-held beliefs around it, but I doubt gender ideologues will back down from their position any time soon. They have established themselves, and built careers and organisations on their beliefs, and those things will be protected before kids will.
In late 2025, the Ministry of Health NZ announced that new prescriptions of puberty blockers would be restricted – in effect, a ban. What did trans lobby group PATHA do upon hearing that? They filed an urgent injunction to prevent the regulation from coming into effect. The court agreed to a judicial review of the Ministry of Health’s decision, and the findings of that are set down for 6 – 7 May.
In the meantime, the regulation stays in place, but is on pause, and health practitioners are free to prescribe puberty blockers for new patients. In the event the Ministry’s decision is upheld, those new patients can stay on that medication. In due course, the vast majority of them – studies show up to 98% - will go onto taking cross-sex hormones. Some will go further, and also have body modification surgery in an attempt to emulate the opposite sex. If the court finds the Ministry of Health didn’t follow due process when making their decision to restrict puberty blockers, then I suppose they’ll have to start the process all over again. Meanwhile, PATHA, and all the other trans lobby groups in NZ, will be marshalling every resource they can to try and prevent restrictions on puberty blockers ever coming into effect.
Trans lobby groups desperately need there to be such a thing as ‘trans’ kids. The kids are needed to give legitimacy to the lie that believing one is the opposite sex is an innate trait from birth, or a young age. They want to scrub the knowledge that adult men who say they’re women are just transvestites, and pretend their cross-dressing is because they were born with a ‘lady brain’. Women who say they’re men, on the other hand, are simply messed up for the most part, in my opinion.
The Greens have a transvestite on their candidates list for the general election later this year. This man goes by the name Lauren Craig, and states in his bio that he “recently led a campaign to reverse the ban on puberty blockers for trans and takatāpui youth.” Do we think the Finnish study will make him think again about his stance on puberty blockers? I think hell will freeze over first.
The investment by people and organisations into the ‘trans’ fable has been HUGE. There’s hardly anything that hasn’t been tainted by gender ideology - women’s organisations, councils, libraries, the public service, unions, schools, political parties, Facebook groups, healthcare, lawyers, the judiciary – you name it. The Finnish study is undoubtably an unwelcome dose of facts and reality for them, which blows the web of lies around gender-affirming care out of the water. It will be good additional material for the Ministry of Health to refer to when having to defend their decision to restrict new prescriptions of puberty blockers, but the propaganda machines attached to trans lobby groups will already be going into overdrive to discredit it. And there will be those only too ready to believe what they come out with.
To date, there has never been as robust a follow-up of young people who received gender-affirming healthcare, as this Finnish study. It unequivocally shows that too many young people’s mental health deteriorated after gender-affirming healthcare for it to ever be considered good practise again. As much as the deniers will deny the study’s validity, it’s out there now, and an inconvenient truth for them, no matter how much they double down – and double down they surely will.
In November 2025 an article appeared in The Press, in response to the announcement by Health Minister, Simeon Brown, about the puberty blocker ban, in which the journalist sought opinions only from those who opposed it. They all had careers and practices which benefitted from puberty blockers being available to young people with gender confusion. I anticipate that each of those ‘well-meaning’ interviewees will only use the Finnish study to wipe their you-know-whats.
Also worth a read, is Stella O’Malley’s latest piece, in which she references the Finnish study, titled “The Cass Paradox: In this essay I argue that medical transition lacks a reliable evidence base and that focusing solely on paediatric cases concedes the central argument.”

Great piece, apart from recommending David Hayton's mate Smelling Your-Manbits (O'Malley). She's a trannyloving danger to children, mate. Her interview with Big Dave and his wife should discount her from ever talking about this shit ever again, the vile shithead.
That said, you can NOT fix a problem between the ears with a surgery between the legs.
The Bad Ship Tranny can NOT sink fast enough!
It is irrefutable that going onto a needless medical pathway will result in negatives for any person thus trapped. Ethical medical practitioners and wise counsellors should be actively listening to troubled youth and giving them effective strategies for healthy lives not buying into their delusions.
