Jill Ovens, co-leader of the Women’s Rights Party NZ, fills me in on their upcoming plans and activities for 2025
The Women’s Rights Party NZ have got a full year ahead for 2025. Some of what they’ll be doing is hosting two overseas visitors, submitting on three pieces of proposed legislation (so far), meeting with the Law Commission, and campaigning to have Women’s Suffrage Day made more visible.
Women’s Suffrage Day is the 19th September, when women won the right to vote in NZ. We were the first self-governing country in the world where women won that right, yet it scarcely gets acknowledged here anymore. Meanwhile, neo-rainbow flags frequently flutter in many locations at many times of the year, which in some places is on a permanent basis.
The Women’s Rights Party is the only political party in NZ which looks out for women as their mandate. The bigger political parties have sold out women at the behest of men who say they’re women, and all legacy women’s organisations have done the same. There are (baby) plans afoot, though, to begin taking some of these organisations back.
Here’s our chat - I’m always in awe of how much knowledge and information Jill keeps in her head, and the life experiences she’s had.
And well done to you Karina for introducing us to those who are fighting on our behalf !!
And for keeping us up to speed !!
