Memoirs of a Former Dick-Panderer - by Jo Bartosch.
I loved this article by Jo Bartosch, and had to share it.
Today, I’m fan-girling Jo Bartosch.
For those who need an intro, Jo is a widely published UK journalist, assistant editor at The Critic, and co-author of the upcoming book ‘Pornocracy’. She tweets on X at @jo_bartosch.
She also has a Substack called Banned & Damned Dispatches, which has the sum total of two blogpieces on it since its inception in April 2022. I’m guessing that it seemed like a good idea at the time, but then better, bigger, and busier things happened. So, it was a spot of luck that I saw the below bloody brilliant article floating around on Substack Notes, thanks to it being ‘liked’ by a subscriber to my own Substack, so the algorithms stuck it in my Notes feed.
Now, I know that one person’s “bloody brilliant” article is another person’s “meh, it’s okay, I suppose”. Nevertheless, I’m unapologetically fangirling all over it, as there is much in it that feels parallel to my story, too, even if they’re each situationally different.
Jo’s pretty damn rad with some of the things she says in this piece, which got me nearly whooping and punching the air - which is pretty damn rad for me. This might not be your story, or your whoop and air punch, but I’m sure there are gems in it for every woman who has ever flipped the finger at gender ideology and its promulgators.

Brilliant
Thank you for posting this link. I recognise myself in part of it, having come to feminism via being active in the left peace and anti nuclear movement. There is a fair bit I don’t agree with, and I probably would have been one of the radical lesbians passionately arguing with her. I love the ending. This is what it is about. To unapologetically voice our own truth and not care who hates us for it. As long as it is standing up for lesbian, women and girls sex-based rights, it doesn’t matter how we get there and whatever way we do it best. Pity she gave up on Substack.
