Why would any sane society want to rob us of the word ‘mother’? A word which is one of our most enduring words throughout all time and across all cultures, and rich with the same meaning, feeling, connection, and cohesion as it ever was. Yet, here in New Zealand, and other places in the Western world, our public services and organisations seem hellbent on separating us from the word ‘mother’, and replacing it with monstrosities such as ‘birthing parent’.
Sarah Henderson writes a superb piece below about this modern barbarity, and how the word ‘mother’, and what it means, is absolutely foundational for us.
Great piece of writing. Mother is the name of God on the lips of children.
