Recently, a parent contacted me about an after-school programme called ‘Rainbow Drop-In’ being held at the Christchurch (NZ) Central Library, Tūranga. The parent had tried to find some information about it on the library’s website, but nothing could be found there.
Real cloak and dagger material. If it’s all so above board, then why the secrecy? We all know that this would be the equivalent of one of those LGBT clubs in US schools - the ones where all the gender non-conforming kids sit around and talk themselves into being trans or at least genderqueer, eagerly facilitated by a ‘queer’ adult.
It truly is cloak and dagger. As soon as the label "vulnerable individuals" is used, it seems like there are no further questions asked. I suspect that this programme could be very much like the US school ones you mention in practice.
I just checked the library website Ts & Cs for organisations booking community space for their activities. It clearly says that, "The hirer must truthfully and accurately state the type of activity the community facility is being hired for." So the library does or should have truthful and accurate information about the purpose of the booking & activities etc.
Also of interest is this: "The person who makes the booking (or the legal entity’s representative as notified to the Council) is required to be present for the duration of the event."
So that means if InsideOUT people are not present then there is zero compunction for any library staff to sub for InsideOUT people.
I also love libraries and am alarmed about the creep of gender ideology and InsideOUT's influence in particular in our public library spaces. InsideOUT's tactics appear to intentionally go under the radar - very deceptive. Such secrecy and obfuscation does not belong in public libraries. This nonsense about having to meet in person to discuss the programme is bizarre - sounds like someone doesn't want to put things in writing. If library staff are stepping in to sub for absent InsideOUT youth workers - then this is no longer simply an 'external booking' - is it? You made some excellent points Katrina - thanks for bringing this out into the open.
Yes - there's a lot that's questionable about what InsideOUT do, and they know that as soon as they trot out the words "vulnerable young people/individuals", everyone starts tip-toeing around and doesn't scrutinise them.
Many thanks for this Katrina. Our local council gave our 🌈 InsideOUT affiliated group $5000 to do whatever - no record of what. There’s no exterior oversight of any of this. Any of it.
Thank you Katrina for sharing this story, with evidence - so valuable to explain what is happening in this factual way! May we please share this on Let Kids Be Kids social media platforms?

thank you. inside out. honestly. even the name creeps me
When you hide in the shadows it's a clear sign that your up to no good.
InsideOut and it's ability to slither into our children's world without parents knowing is very concerning.
Well done Katrina.

Thanks for that info. I think that this has been poorly thought through, and the library might be getting themselves in a tangle with this programme.

So basically it was a gift to that group from the rate payers.

Absolutely, please do. Any of my blogs here are free to share at anytime, but thanks for the courtesy of asking :-)
Thank you! Do you have a Twitter handle?
Yes - it’s @KatrinaBiggs2
Great work on this. Thank you Katrina.
There must be quite a dossier on InsideOUT's dubious programmes and 'outreach' by now.
