This from the WRP is spot on: 'Women gained the right to say "No" to men. Do not take this right away from us by putting into law an obligation that we see others in the way they demand we see them, rather than the evidence of our eyes and ears. Do not humiliate us by denying our perception and do not tell us we are suffering from some phobia when our fear of male violence and sexual harassment is very real and absolutely justified.' Not surprised Thistoll is afraid to debate Jill. What a weasel to suggest 'sex has outserved its usefulness'. All animals have a sex. None have a gender. I can't listen to the full interview with Jill just now, but will do so later and get back to you. Well done again, KB.
Thanks Katrina for posting this. I intend to make my own submission to the Law Commision to protest some of their, what I can only describe as, bizarre proposals and your comments, interview with Jill Ovens and links to others' submissions have helped me refine and focus my thoughts. I also believe NZ needs to cancel or significantly refine the law as per the Births, Marriages and Deaths Act that allows individuals to Self Identify as a member of the opposite sex, and allows such an individual to have a Birth Certificate, Passport and Drivers Licence all issued on that basis, despite the person clearly not being biologically of that sex. This legal sanctioning of what is clearly an objective untruth is effectively legalizing a form of insanity and surely needs to be drastically overhauled. Meanwhile thank you very much for your posts and keep up the good work. Cheers, Martin
I've been reading through the proposals as I put my submission together. Most of it is stark raving nuts. Laughable if it wasn't so awful. The act as it stands is a good piece of legislation. Hopefully they won't screw it up. Thanks KB
We know that those indoctrinated with trans ideology have no ability to see beyond the ideology, so we know there’s a good chance the Law Commission will indeed screw it up, but we still live in hope :-)
You are very fortunate in NZ for having the foreknowledge and opportunity to fight this. In my jurisdiction we've lost the game in straight sets. The gender-as-protected-characteristic was done a decade ago ironically under the first female PM. More recently Victoria snuck in self-id during the covid era when no one was looking, and followed with regulations for the medical industry that forbade non-approving treatment as "conversion therapy" (actually the opposite of it!).
It will be far harder to roll this back than preventing its adoption in the first place so Kiwis need to work hard to not allow the root to take. Luckily you have a sympathetic govt just now, but all these changes will be avalanched in as soon as govt changes again.
Yes, we're keenly aware that if a new woke government gets into power they will fall over themselves in their haste to push this through. We can only hope that public awareness of trans ideology continues to rise, and makes it a vote-loser for any government that goes near it. Everything around trans ideology has been done on the sly by idealogues, so raising awareness is our best hope of curtailing it.

Yes, these chats tend to go on for longer than I expect them to - lol!
👏 Your opening paragraph says it all! Couldn’t agree more.
Yes stop using gender to cover for sex.
