Is a 'left' that erases women's rights and kids' protections really a left? Is a left that has replaced class struggle with the promotion of bourgeois identitarianism really a left? I don't think so. Today's 'left' is simply displaying its abandonment of left principles and practices. I was actively involved in the far Left for more than 40 years. No more.

How much more damaging is it to LGB people than to deny same sex attraction and replace it with same 'gender' attraction? This enables hetero men to claim they are 'lesbians', join lesbian dating pools and pressure young lesbians to engage in hetero sex. It's happening, it's regressive and no genuine left person should support it. Not ever. The faux left has lost its mind, its politics, its way.

That is exactly right - it is not we who have changed our values (I'm speaking from the centre-left /social democratic viewpoint which seems to be predominant in the GC community). Till the globalism revolution the left was a predominantly working-class backed movement centred around unionised industrial labour. Once the working class were kicked out from our own movement it became dominated by a technocratic nomenklatura who run the public service, education system and the media (except the explicitly right wing press). The current one is a "bourgeois/academic/corporate left", yes that last one is an oxymoron.

Unfortunately its not as simple as just changing the govt. I'm happy for you across the Tasman but this movement has entrenched itself so deeply they have taken control of the education system to indoctrinate generations of children and actively curate news reporting to advance their ideological agendas. They have succeeded in the Marcusian/Dutschkian long march. This has to be recognised and fought over the long term.

Yes, these policies are just the beginning of a long haul. We may be helped along by the emergence of swathe of younger people who think gender ideology is bonkers and take the p*ss out of it now. Ridiculing and resisting it is like their rebellion. However, as you say, there’s still a huge cohort who have bought into it.
