If it wasn't for you, Rex. Philippa and some other terfs over there I'd be very happy to renounce my NZ citizenship.....though, frankly, not that our situation is anything to be proud of here. (I was born in Whangarei and had dual citizenship since 1989. If it wasn't for my my Aussie hubby flatly refusing I would have "gone home" to retire)

As far as wokery goes, NZ and OZ are probably neck and neck, just in different ways - lol!

I agree, although I don’t think we have women representing us in OZ who have

anywhere near the boldness and clarity of the issues as you have in NZ.

Really? I thought you had several really 'out there' women tackling these issues - e.g. Kath Deves, Sall Grover, Moira Deeming, Anna Mack. Or, am I missing what you're saying?

I think that Moira Deeming has been effectively sidelined. Meanwhile woke women like that idiot from Adelaide (Clementine Ford) get centre stage in book shops.

MoiraD has been very invisible since the blow up from last year's KJKM event, apart from occasional updated about the defamation actions against the Lib leader. I sent her a support email through the MP portal, I hope she got it. The Libs look barely alive at the state level in Victoria. Ironically they have here a massive issue just dying to be taken up as an election platform - why won't they run with it?

(Dammit I just found out I missed yesterday's TERF rally at parliament! I was at the one last year - if anyone has a rundown on what happened I'd gladly read it.)

I guess Moira D. may have lain low because of the defamation case.

In brief, yesterday's rally on the steps of Parliament was a battleground! The TRAs turned up in huge loud and aggressive numbers, and I mean really loud and aggressive. There was a good police presence, but both they and Michelle, who heads the 'Women Will Speak' rallies - which have only been in parks up until yesterday - were caught by surprise at the TRA turnout and behaviour. Michelle accepted the use of bigger sound equipment from a man who had also been speaking there, and, wouldn't you know it, turned out to have had a previous association with a neo-nazi group (or a group which was given that moniker). Michelle made the decision to accept his help not knowing who he was - and for some reason failed to ask for and read his full CV - and under extreme duress. The TRAs online have been baying for her blood ever since (they just LOVE being able to marry up terfs and neo-nazis), as have a number of women. Michelle accepts that she made a miscalculation under stress, and realises that she needs to find a way to get better sound equipment going forward. This is just a very brief outline, there's a lot more to it, and I believe Michelle will be speaking with someone on their YouTube channel soon to explain in greater detail what went down. Interestingly, few seem to be talking about the vile behaviour of the TRAs - it's like they just weren't there. However, if it wasn't for them, Michelle wouldn't have been put into the position of having to make a decision on the fly in an incredibly difficult situation, so the criticisers can take a hike - a long one.

So good to see your name here Richard. I was getting worried as I

thought you may have been shuttled off to Siberia !

They do, quite quickly get sidelined and that is more or less the end as there doesn’t

appear to be much fight-back. I won’t go into detail on all of them.

However, Kath Deves ‘Save Women's Sport’ spoke out to exclude trans women.

She was slammed as divisive, heavily criticised and received death threats.

She ended up saying she was chastened by the reaction, backed down and will now

go forward conducting herself in a dignified and respectful fashion!

It was our first female Prime Minister, Julia Gillard’s Govt who removed definitions of

‘sex’ ‘women’ and ‘man’ and inserted ‘gender identity’.

I don’t see courage and boldness. I hope it’s there somewhere…

I remember that awfulness around Kath Deves. I don't think we've had anyone here in NZ tested in the same way. Most of us who speak out are older, work for ourselves or from home, and don't have jobs in workplaces or families for TRAs to target. Jacinda Ardern was Prime Minister through sex self-ID being passed into law, as well as the Conversion Practices bill, but if she'd had more time, I don't doubt she would have done the same thing with the language that Julia Gillard did.

It was a highlight of my day. I mean, if the assoc min Education can get spat at/menaced then all's fair. Terrific about the 'dumb as' so-called hate speech laws.

Good point. I mean, what's worse - being spat at in person, or sworn at from a screen?

Trans disciples in Scotland can barely contain themselves in anticipation of their ascension to glory when ‘I hate you law’ comes into practice. In Edinburgh there are several voluntary hubs (cafes, indie shops, bookstores) who have signed up to be ‘reporting space’ where complainants are given a pre-printed form to report the crime of not doing what you’re told. 🤢

The news in England is better 🙂

Scotland’s going to be in a right ol’ mess soon. Do these ninnies not realise that the more people are suppressed, including in speech, the less they will engage in public life? Yes, they will still go out and about, but will reduce where they go, how long they spend there, and who they chat to. Not really all that great for broadening one’s circle of friend and acquaintances, and for businesses which rely on customers in the flesh.

Scotland’s been in strategic decline for decades. It’s people, like all others in the anglosphere are collateral damage. I agree with previous comment that ‘Hate Crime’ will probably be kicked to the kerb but I’m also well aware that we’re a hair’s breath away from a N/S korea scenario where I’m on the free side and my family are not. 😐

Yes, it’s a big relief to see the back of it. It would do very little except damage ordinary people’s lives. As you say, that will become evident in Scotland, but people will be harmed from it first. I imagine the police and courts getting bogged down with vexatious use of the hate speech laws, too.
