Why isn’t Broadsheet on Substack? It’s a much better platform that doesn’t believe in censorship.

And it could go back into the subscription business.

Personally, I will never be on Facebook- it’s always been exploitative in my view. I’m a confirmed Facebook refusnik.

That's actually a really good question. Maybe I'll email them and ask it.

Excellent news.

The fetishization of perceived/claimed persecution — in reality, people saying things they don’t agree with, and not acceding to their demands to forfeit rights to them — is pure narcissism, both individual and collective.

Being offended cannot on its own be justification for limiting other’s rights: when it is used as such, the heckler’s veto is fully in force for a privileged few, while those whose rights are actually being limited are denied equal protection. 🤬

I read Broadsheet in the early 1970s. Even had a letter published. Great to see it back on FB, but I agree that it would be more at home on Substack.

Splendid news.

I'm quite inspired to check out whether Mark has unlocked my FB and Instagram accounts which were similarly frozen and I've been locked out of for over 2 years...

Also, don't be fooled that Substack is a free speech zone. I've had paid subs to various "feminists" where I'm unable to publish comments regardless of the terms of subscription being that it entitles you to do so. Substack wash their hands of taking responsibility to enforce it. Nor will they give refunds to offended subbers who complain about the unmet terms. Bri Lee was one who took $$$ off me for 3 months without allowing interaction in her precious "community".

Hilariously, I've also found myself banned in advance when trying to sign up for some peeps, like the odious Clementine Ford.

First of all, I agree with your description of Clementine Ford. She used to be a woman whom I thought had something worthwhile to say, but that changed quite a while ago. I’ve encountered her writings a couple of times since then, and she’s a raving nutjob now.

In respect to what Substack does and doesn’t allow, they do make it clear that a writer’s account and email list pretty much belongs to the writer to manage as they will. Interesting to hear your experience with not being able to comment on one writer’s account despite being a paid subscriber. It makes me realise that I’m better off paying monthly instead of yearly for subscriptions, even though it works out to cost more.

I think I know who you are talking about although some of his antics predates my lurking in terf circles. He’s like an ageing wanna be starlet of the cinema golden era, who pays someone to check the newspapers and clip any mentions. He hovers over X and posts every time he is mentioned - or not mentioned. Off to Bluecry now to see what your special friend has to say about Broadsheet’s resurrection.
