It took several weeks and several reiterations, with every statement in it backed up by robust evidence, and then labelled as an ‘opinion’ piece, but the NZ Herald finally published an article about puberty blockers which wasn’t hot off the press from transgender advocates or lobbyists. It would be fair to say that the NZ Herald didn’t exactly chase the writer of the article, Jan Rivers, enthusiastically for it, but instead was diligently pressured by their own stated commitment to accuracy and fairness. They relented when it was pointed out they had previously published an article about puberty blockers which could be proved to have had a lot of inaccuracies in it.
Awesome that this was published. Now how do we get this out into the wider media in NZ???Every GP should be reading this. The stats are pretty horrifying.
Great article. What shocks me — and hopefully everyone else — is the statistic of NZ children prescribed puberty blockers compared to the UK. Given that the UK at 67 million has a vastly larger population than NZ’s 5 million, I would also like to have seen it expressed as a percentage or per capita. If I’ve done my calculations correctly, NZ’s rate of prescription is almost 10 times that of the UK.
This is about time!!!!!!!!!!! Imagine finding out your child had been started on these without your consent.... I worked in health and heard of this happening. Thank goodness it's starting to get out there. Although so many people are so brainwashed by it already
NZ Herald (at last!) publishes an article which questions the use of puberty blockers.
