I find it amazing that this has happened under a government that has made so much political capital out of the mosque attacks. They are denying Muslim women rate payers the use of council facilities in preference to some natal males with delusional thinking. Way to go (not).
Very good letter! I'm so glad you make the point that so far we haven't heard of a man, who presents as a woman, misbehaving in a women-only space, and this doesn't matter. Changing the rules to allow in these 'non-women' ruins our enjoyment and our security.
Thanks. I don't anticipate a change of stance from them, as they have been obdurate so far, but we still need to let them know that the pressure won't stop, and that there is an audit trail of it.
However I’m an old fashioned guy who wants to believe in the law and in science. Both of these have been systematically corrupted over the last few decades to the point where I begin tonhave serious doubts about the integrity of both.
My point is that at the time of birth the sex of the baby is determined by observation.
Generally this is adequate.
We know that at times the genetic makeup can go wrong. There are a few cases of intersex. XX, XY, and then possibly XXY and other variants.
In the case of ambiguity in presentation genetic testing is available.
If someone in later years is sure that they are the wrong sex then this can be checked.
If a person who was determined to be a boy at birth is convinced that the wrong decision was made then that person should be tested. If he tests as XX he is a she. Opinion does not come into it.
Only after such a test should the birth certificate be altered, and presumably an apology offered.
Official documents should be sacred not subjected to alteration on a whim.
I agree with you, and didn't mean to imply that I was ambivalent about changing the recorded sex on a birth certificate just on the basis of a changeable feeling.

The absolute denial that this will be a problem, or if there is then they'll deal with it when it arises, bamboozles me, too.
It's disgustingly cynical, I agree.
Thanks for following this up with CCC, and for informing your readers. An excellent letter, and too important an issue to abandon.

Good letter Katrina. Hopefully they heed the warning and take your sound advice to do the right thing by women and girls.

Look at the other sites on the same IP as transgender dates;

Found that while searching for this;

Words won't do it. But turning up on masse seems to have an impact. You'll be called right wing Christians in the media the next day though.
I support third or mixed space for those who identify as transpeople.
Yes, it's a good solution for anyone for any reason whatsoever who doesn't feel comfortable in communal single-sex spaces.
Yes, it's a shame that almost all of the "trans" identifying object to the mere idea of using them so loudly.
I am so ashamed of my country.
We are led by arrogant self righteous fools.
While the women we are supposed to cherish and protect are legally erased.

NZ has probably got one of the better sex self-ID laws out of most countries who've imposed it. That's not saying much, though.
Fair enough on the surface I suppose.
