I recently wrote about an incident which occurred in a New World supermarket in a small town called Ōtaki in New Zealand. An older Māori woman, Phillippa, got banned from that store for wearing a t-shirt which read “Men are not women, even if you squint”. Now Sarah Henderson has written this excellent piece below, published on PlainSight. It’s a long read, so grab a cuppa and dig in.
After some consideration, Phillipa is progressing this matter from a legal angle, as she realises that there’s a lot on the line here for both her and women in general. Phillippa has engaged a lawyer, and Mana Wāhine Kōrero (Sovereign Women Speak) are helping to fundraise for the initial legal fees of NZD$3,000 via ‘buy me a coffee’. I understand that, if applicable, other currency donations can be made through this platform as well. Any contribution, though, is very much appreciated 😊
And the t-shirt that kicked it all off is now available here.
just gave some money. thank you.
Thanks Katrina. I've read the piece. I know the FSU advocated for some UA staff historically & it solicited donations at the time. From X today I see the FSU is investigating. I would think Phillippa will be quite well supported in this.
