Jill Ovens, national secretary and co-leader of the Women’s Rights Party NZ, gives an excellent presentation about the party in this recent Women’s Declaration International video below.
Kia ora Katrina ae ki a koe wahine toa me korero tuhi...you're a strong woman speaking truth. I once was a member of N.C. W. with roles in advocacy to write to and meet with parliamentarians and liaison with Maori Women's Welfare League to advocate ...no longer. After they in 2019 embraced deluded men I was out. A revered aunt (who certainly knew who was male ...she had 5 boys) was once President of Zonta back in the day when Zonta knew their mission to be there to highlight women's issues. Like yourself I am not willing to indulge idiocy and will happily send Mr Menno videos: 'It's a Man' etc to wilfully ignorant politicians and yesterday wore my 'Speak Up for Women Sex Matters' tshirt to a post grad philosophy seminar on 'gender and sexual orientation' to be a 'bosom billboard' but not one person said anything....I'll fight the lies till I die.
Thanks for the compliment, Juliana :-) Somehow, though, I think I might pale in comparison to the strength and determination you show. I love the expression 'bosom billboard' and will steal that - lol!
Katrina, you have to admit it doesn't look good for your side of this debate when Jan Rivers shares platforms with the likes of Bob McCoskrie and Brian Tamaki, both hardline anti-abortionists. As for questions about sex-based womens rights, here's somee for you. What about defending the rights of lesbians overseas to be free from anti-lesbian rape and assault? What about criminalising femicide and stalking? Should these not be feminist priorities? From what I can see, 'legacy' feminist organisations are indeed active on these concerns.
Women's rights are for all women, and that includes the women who may be in Bob McCoskrie's and Brian Tamaki's organisations. There is no such thing as a 'correct' class of women who deserve women's rights more than another. Bob and Brian's organisations also have children in them who deserve to be protected from gender ideology. There are no right or wrong people to team up with in the fight to protect women's rights, and to protect children from the harms of gender ideology. Snobbery and elitism have no place in a matter which affects everyone across the social and political spectrum.
Any women's organisation which considers any man who says he's a woman to be one, is corrupted, and not working in the best interests of women anymore.
