This is precisely what cracked me up when watching the news last night. Chippie criticising the budget saying, "This budget will be remembered as the one that took pay from women." (or words to that effect). A bit strange, I thought, coming from someone that doesn't even know what a woman is!
They know what a woman is, too, when they wish to object to women being allegedly driven off social media and out of politics by misogynistic abuse and threats. They also know when their ideological opponents are women, and hence who to call cunts because misogynistic abuse is ok directed at women who disagree with them.
Irony and hypocrisy are the daily double for these sleaze merchants. Labour lost me when they insisted that those born with a penis could be women because they felt like women that day. I nearly threw something at the TV when I saw Tinetti decrying the pay equity thing; has she suddenly seen the light? Ha, ha, yeah right>
I am from the UK and try to keep tabs on what is going on in the opposite side of the world. I see Janette Rose Tinetti, her full name, grew in the middle of an institution for people with intellectual disabilities where her father worked. I guess she now feels at home in the outside world, especially in government.
I gather she has had breast cancer and has had a mastectomy.
I don’t think much of doctors nowadays at all so I commiserate with her but this is no doubt why her name can anagram to ‘er Janette no titties’.
So who gets to delineate the boundaries of the bands of work/jobs that are of EQUAL VALUE? Would sheep-shearing be in the construction-worker band for sheer grunt level involved, or be in with grocery checkout workers for skill levels not requiring a degree?
Thanks Katrina, finally someone speaking out about this issue! I've been saying this every since the Equity Pay nonsense started. Like what are they talking about, now caring so much about "women" (and often they actually forget there is a plural form and it's all "woman" and even when spelt right still pronounced as the singular). Hipkins is the last one who should open his mouth about Women's Pay Parity as he clearly has explained that a woman is anyone who identifies as one!
Also, why don't all women when negotiating pay just identify as men, problem solved!!!
Haha - I would be amongst those who would grind your gears at my pronunciation of the the word 'women'. I try to remember to correct it, but it always seems to slip my mind to do so when I'm actually speaking. I think a lot of Kiwis have that 'tic'.
I'll forgive you (maybe? lol), but it seems the last year or so it has gotten much more common, like there is no plural form anymore! I'm always shouting at the TV haha!

This is very interesting. I'm an American living in the US, and I've never heard anyone pronounce "woman" and "women" the same until I met my mother-in-law. She's Welsh by birth but has been living in the US for the past 60 years. For some reason she pronounces both the singular and plural the same -- she says "woman". At first I thought it must be a Welsh thing, but I asked her sister-in-law, who still lives in Wales, and she told me no, it's not. So it's a mystery.
The first time she said it to me, years ago, I was confused and had to ask her if she was talking about one woman or more.
I didn't realize that some people in New Zealand were also pronouncing those words this way. I wonder what's going on?
Yes, I have no idea, but to me it seems to have spread here quite recently from what I've noticed. Maybe from journalists and social media? People seem to still use singular and plural for "man/men" though ...
No, no ideas really. Except that maybe ‘women’ is pronounced a bit differently to how it looks. It’s not alone in that, of course, so I’m guessing the mispronunciation of it is just a bad habit that gets picked up.

Precisely - lol!
I don't think he knows very much as far as I can judge.

They show up their ridiculous ideology at every turn.
Because it’s not about truth, it’s about allegiance, and compliance.

Hah! Tinetti will die a ‘true believer’ I reckon.

I must admit I haven’t much looked into her life before government, apart from knowing she’s been a school principal.
Yes I said out loud but Hipk#$@you still do not know (!) what a woman is!

Maybe AI, or my dead aunt Pauline...?

It would be interesting if a male dominated field, who can't make a pay equity claim identified as women to get around the legislation.
If there's no definition of a woman, anything's possible.
Wokedom could actually be hoist on their petard over this one. YUM.
The possibilities are all there :-)
Lovely concept, Katrina - which do they go for !!
